How Equity Engineering Group Conquers a Dispersed Global Workforce

Before Sift

The Equity Engineering Group (E2G) is a consulting firm headquartered in Shaker Heights, Ohio, with additional offices in Houston, Newport Beach, Calgary and across India. E2G specializes in providing advanced engineering solutions, risk-based inspection, and software products to a global client base.

As the company expanded, managing a dispersed workforce and maintaining efficient internal communication became increasingly challenging. Ensuring that employees could easily access information about their colleagues, understand the organizational structure, and collaborate effectively across various locations was paramount.

E2G was using a third-party service to maintain their organizational charts and employee directories. When this ceased operations it led them to using manual PDF org charts. The need for a more integrated, user-friendly solution that could streamline these processes and enhance internal connectivity became very evident.

Integrating Sift

Director of HR at E2G, Theresa Riley, took the initiative to find a solution that could solve these problems. Implementation was very seamless. Working with Sift’s CS Team, E2G was able to easily connect via Azure Active Directory to pull all of their necessary employee data into Sift.

Theresa liked that they could integrate people into the org chart and directory without having to do many steps. Having both in one place makes it simple. Theresa Riley explains, “...I don't have to have a separate directory, an org chart, and a list of people that are in certain groups.... You'll find everything here [in Sift].”

When Theresa onboards someone, “I use Sift to give them a walkthrough of the organization. I give them a tour and then prompt them to fill out their own profile to help get them up and running quickly.” After new employees complete their official onboarding, Theresa has them go play around in Sift so they could learn more about who is at E2G and what they do. “That's a big part of the onboarding process here. And we've got good feedback from the new employees that they haven't had something like it before.”

The ease of being able to bring in E2G’s employee data, along with incorporating Sift into their onboarding efforts for new employees, led Sift to spread across their 200+ employees globally. Sift’s focus on User Adoption is witnessed by its G2 Spring 2024 award for The Highest User Adoption in the Mid-Market.

Using Sift

Sift began to catch on with their employees internally when they found out how intuitive Sift is. Many had been using static PDFs as their primary source for learning about each other and when they started utilizing Sift, they could easily connect the names to faces.

They also loved Sift’s fast and dynamic search feature as that is something they did not have in their previous solution. Being able to find someone based on name, skill, phone number, department, education and more with just a few keystrokes really enabled their workforce to discover different areas of the business they would not have previously.

People on-the-go also enjoy the mobile app which is something Sift offers on both iOS and Android. Many employees at E2G, including the CEO, are big fans of being able to see employees easily with a simple click to learn more about them.

E2G also builds and sells their own software to clients as well. Theresa notes, “[Sift] helps certain people figure out, like, oh, who's working on this product? Who's working on that product? Who can I have help me with this? That's great.”

Since its inception at E2G, Sift has facilitated better communication and collaboration across their org, leading to more streamlined operations and a cohesive work environment. Theresa and E2G are excited for what the future holds with Sift, especially how they can enhance internal mobility with Open Roles.
